With extensive experience in the management of commissioning of Mechanical, Electrical, and Architectural systems on a broad range of high-profile projects, including highly complex healthcare, industrial and laboratory facilities, Kyle offers a highly sought-after combination hands-on, technical engineering and management skills to any project.
In his 15+ years with CES Group, Kyle has been at the center of developing CES’s internal standards, processes and teams, as well as leading a large and diverse portfolio of projects. He has provided Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services on more than 50 LEED projects throughout the province, and over 150 projects total, comprising an estimated 15,000,000+ square feet of built space, and has acted as Cx Authority for several major redevelopment and expansion projects in the healthcare sector, overseeing the commissioning of various specialized HVAC, electrical, life-safety, and healthcare systems to the latest CSA standards.
Kyle has acted as laboratory certification consultant on two of British Columbia’s most complex Containment Level 3 (CL3) research laboratory projects, managing the commissioning of specialized laboratory electro-mechanical systems and preparing certification report documentation for submission to Public Health Agency of Canada. Kyle has also managed the rebalancing and fail-safe testing process for PHAC recertification of CL3 Laboratories as part of a full DDC Controls Upgrade project and lead the recommissioning and rebalancing for a major vivarium reconfiguration project.
Beginning in 2020, Kyle has focused on leading the industry in his application of next generation commissioning software platforms across a selection of projects nationwide, including leading the commissioning program for Amazon at their 1,000,000+ ft2 square foot flagship office project in at The Canada Post redevelopment in downtown Vancouver using the CxAlloy software platform, as well as dozens of other projects in the healthcare sector and beyond.
In 2022, Kyle was retained by BC Housing as subject matter expert to work with the BCH Commissioning, Construction Services, Development & Asset Strategies team to develop improvements to the BC Housing Commissioning Guidelines major revision. The same year, he was also a member of the ASHRAE Certification Committee’s technical working group for the development of the Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) Exam Study guide.
Kyle is an expert in the application of the CAN/ULC-S1001 Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems and presented at the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society of British Columbia (CHESBC) conference in May 2023 on this topic.
Kyle is proud to have been approved by UL Solutions as Western Canada’s first ULC Qualified Integrated Testing Coordinator in May of 2024.
Kyle is a member of 2024 CSA Group’s Health Care Facility Commissioning Technical Subcommittee working on the new edition of the CSA Z8001 Commissioning of health care facilities Standard.
Outside of his professional life, Kyle’s natural inclination for engineering and project management can be seen in his passion for the sport of sailing and his founding and ongoing management of a cooperative-owned sailing vessel. As the co-owner, skipper and chief engineer responsible for operation and maintenance of ‘S/V Aeolus’, Kyle constantly exercises his leadership and practical technical abilities in areas as diverse as diesel engine repair, and preventive maintenance, AC and DC electrical systems upgrades, gas fitting, rigging and sail tuning, heavy weather tactics, budgeting, crew relations and planning of longer passages and multi-day expeditions. He nurtures his creativity with a daily practice of making music on guitar, bass, and keys.
